Visiting Us

There are many ways to experience life at Redfield without actually living here.

We realised some time ago that many people are curious for different reasons, some want to observe a different way of life, some want to get an idea of what it would be like to live in a community, some want to escape the rat race for a while, and some are just plain ol' nosey!

Over the years we have developed ways of being here that cover just about all eventualities to cater for as many people as possible.

As a Wwoofer :

(WWOOF = World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms). We have several wwoof weekends during the year, when we aim to make a big impact on a practical outdoor job, in the organic garden, woodland, orchard, field or outbuildings. We also take wwoofers for longer periods too. You must be a member of the WWOOF organisation, please see our Links page for details on how to become a member of this great organisation. For available dates to visit on a Wwoof weekend, please see below. If you are already a member and want to put your name down, please email us either through the WWOOF website or directly.

Come on a Visitor Day :

This is ideally for people wanting to find out more about communal life. A tour of the 17 acre estate, communal lunch and an opportunity to talk with community members is included and at a cost of £10 per person (just to cover our costs). Arrive between 10am and 11am, booking and payment is required in advance. If you are interested, please see dates below. Contact us to reserve a place and for instructions on payment.

Come on a Maintenance Week :

Join us in our efforts to maintain our rambling Victorian mansion and grounds. Experience communal life, have fun and help get some much needed jobs done. No experience required and there is a big chance that you get some experience on how we tackle maintenance works with an ethical and environmentally sustainable way. We request a £20 deposit which is 100% refundable if you attend or you let us know that you cannot make it at least a week ahead of your arrival day. This is only because we have a lot of interest for this event. Booking and payment is required in advance.

  • Please contact us at least 2 weeks in advance of your intended visit (we have a meeting every other Thursday) and need to discuss your potential visit at the meeting.
  • Please advise us in advance of any dietary requirements before arrival.
  • Children welcome by arrangement, but we ask you to take responsibility for any children you bring.
  • Disabled access is to the ground floor (lounge, dining room, toilets and guests rooms).
  • Please bring outdoor clothing and wellies.
  • No smoking inside any of the buildings.
  • No pets under any circumstances please.
  • Please be aware of your speed when coming down the driveway as our children play outside all the time.
